A note about 4x4 vehicles in the winter...
They are never a bad thing. However, do you need to spend the money on it - is the question. The factors you should take into account...
- Do you plan on driving a lot (i.e. to other mountains). If yes - then a 4x4 is a good idea
- Where is the property / parking? Pay attention to the property description to determine if you need extra traction.
The general rule of thumb is you don't need a 4x4 if you are simply going to drive to Breck - park the car during your stay and drive back. The state and local municipalities do a very good job of snow removal. However, it snows like the dickens in Breck during the winter - so always be prepared. If you have a tight timeline and can not wait for the road to be cleared - then you should consider the 4x4 option. Lastly - just because you are renting an SUV, does not mean that it has 4x4 capability. Call your rental agent to be sure what you are getting.
